Working Principle of Hydraulic Static Pile Driver
Working Principle of Hydraulic Static Pile Driver
A hydraulic static pile driver presses precast concrete or steel piles into underground soil by using the machine’s self-weight and hydraulic counterforce, without impact hammering or vibration. Its whole working process can be divided into four core steps.
1.Site positioning and machine leveling
The machine is supported by two groups of floating pontoons (long and short boats) on the ground. Operators adjust longitudinal and transverse moving cylinders to move the whole rig to the designated pile position, then calibrate the horizontal level. This evenly distributes the unit’s dead weight on the ground to prevent sinking during high-load pressing.
2.Pile hoisting and clamping
The built-in lifting device hoists the precast pile vertically and sends it into the central clamping box. The hydraulic clamping system locks the pile tightly. A unique pressure-holding oil circuit automatically supplements oil if cylinder leakage happens, maintaining constant clamping force to stop slipping or tilting during pressing.
3.Static pile pressing (core operation)
Vertical main hydraulic cylinders push the clamping box and the clamped pile downward steadily. The counterforce generated by soil resistance acts upward on the whole machine, balanced by the rig’s self-weight to avoid lifting off the ground. The equipment has two adjustable pressing speeds: high speed for quick penetration of soft silt and clay, and low speed for stable penetration in dense sand or weathered rock. Real-time pressure data is recorded to judge the bearing capacity of the stratum. When the target final pressure is achieved, the proprietary pressure stabilization system holds the pressure for a period to guarantee stable pile bearing capacity and prevent the machine from floating upward.
4.Pile extension and position shifting
After one pile segment is pressed underground, the clamp releases the pile, and the main cylinder retracts upward to grab the next pile section for welding connection. Once the full-length pile is finished, the machine releases the clamp, uses horizontal and longitudinal travel cylinders to shift to the next coordinate, and repeats the above procedures.
5.Key auxiliary hydraulic & electrical logic
Safety valves are installed on all oil pipelines to limit maximum system pressure and protect the machine from overload damage. The low-voltage electric control system adds short-circuit and thermal overload protection to avoid sudden shutdown. For boundary construction, the side/corner piling mechanism provides extra horizontal pressing force to construct piles close to building walls, with 60%–70% of the central pile pressure output.
