Project Features
  • This project crosses an urban area with complex underground pipelines. The project must ensure the safety of existing underground pipelines while also allowing for clearance for other planned pipelines.

  • Due to the high volume of pedestrian and vehicle traffic surrounding the project, the site cannot accommodate a single-step welding process, requiring segmented welding.

  • This project will install five 220mm power pipes in 1145mm inner diameter casing, with a maximum single-stage construction distance of 300 meters.

Machine Selection
Based on geological conditions, pipeline data, and pullback force calculations, the GS1000-LS horizontal directional drilling rig, with its high push and pull force, was selected for this crossing project.
  • Equipped with 264kW Cummins turbocharged engine.
  • Equipped with German Linde pump and Rxroth motor
  • The operator's cab with air-conditioning is rotatable, and the seat utilizes ergonomic design.
  • The rotary manipulator can improve the effiency and ensure safety for loading and umloading rod.

Construction Procdure
  1. Make the construction plan: Based on design requirements, pipeline detection results, and site conditions, determine the drilling route and site layout.
  2. Prepare equipment: Bring in equipment, commission the drilling rig and related equipment, set up construction warning signs, and excavate the working pit.
  3. Prepare the drilling fluid: The drilling fluid cools the drill bit, lubricates the drill tool, balances pressure, and carries debris.
  4. Guided drilling: Through human-machine coordination and standardized operation of the guide tool, ensure the guide trajectory meets the design requirements.
  5.  Back-reaming: Select appropriate drilling tools and perform multiple staged reaming operations (using diameters of 500mm, 700mm, 900mm, 1100mm, 1300mm, and 1400mm, respectively) to gradually expand the hole diameter to the required pipe size.
  6. Pipeline welding: Select a suitable site and operate the welding equipment in a standardized manner to ensure welding efficiency and safety.
  7. Back-pulling: Re-commission the equipment and inspect the drilling tool connections. Reinforce the drilling rig anchors and place rollers every 10 meters beneath the pipeline.
  8. Mud removal and site restoration: During construction, mud at entry and exit points will be promptly removed to designated locations by the environmental protection department. Upon completion, the work pit will be restored and the construction site will be cleaned.

Summary

For urban construction, choose equipment with high push-pull force and moderate drill pipe size. To prevent slurry bubbling, control the slurry flow and pressure during the guiding, hole enlargement, and pullback processes. Pipeline welding should be timed rationally to minimize docking time. For urban construction, thorough pipeline detection is essential, and rash construction is not recommended.
