Successful and safe DTH drilling relies on strict adherence to core procedures. These are the essential precautions:
1. Pre-Start Preparation:
· Site Inspection: Clear and level the ground. Identify and mark all underground utilities and overhead hazards.
· Rig Inspection: Conduct a daily check. Look for hydraulic leaks, damaged hoses (especially high-pressure air lines), structural cracks, and ensure all fluid levels are correct. Verify that safety devices and guards are in place.
· PPE: All personnel must wear a hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toe boots.
2. Safe Setup:
· Always deploy and level all outriggers/stabilizers on solid ground before raising the mast.· Use correct torque and anti-seize compound when connecting the hammer and bit. Always install the bit retaining device.
3. Critical Operating Rules:
· High-Pressure Air Hazard: Never stand in line with or connect/disconnect pressurized hoses. Use safety chains on all connections. Bleed air pressure before servicing.
· Rotating Components: Keep clear of the rotating drill string. Never wear loose clothing near moving parts.
