What is Surface Drilling Machine ?

A surface rock drill is a piece of mechanical equipment used to drill blastholes (for blasting) or other holes in rock or other hard materials in outdoor projects such as open-pit mines, quarries, and road construction.

How the Surface Drilling Machine works?

Its core function is to use mechanical power to drive drilling tools (such as the drill bit) to crush and drill holes in open-pit rock, preparing for subsequent blasting, mining, or foundation construction.

What are the advantages of Surface Drilling Machine construction?

Surface rock drills typically have high mobility (such as crawler or tire-mounted travel) to adapt to the complex terrain of open-pit sites. They are also equipped with efficient drilling power systems and drill rod propulsion mechanisms, enabling them to drill holes of varying depths and diameters according to project requirements.

On-site construction of surface rock drills requires strict adherence to safety regulations and operating procedures. The following are key considerations:

I. Pre-construction Preparation

- Equipment Inspection: Thoroughly inspect all components of the drill rig, including the power system, drill pipe, drill bit, hydraulic system, and brakes, to ensure they are free of damage, oil leaks, or looseness, and that instrument indicators are functioning normally.

- Site Survey: Verify the construction area for obstructions such as underground pipelines and cables. Clear the site of loose rocks and debris, level the work area, and set up safety warning signs and barriers.

- Personnel Preparation: Operators must be certified and familiar with the equipment's performance and operating procedures. Safety and technical briefings must be conducted before construction to clarify division of labor and emergency procedures.

II. Operating Procedure Specifications

- Startup and Operation: Start the equipment according to procedures, operating it at idle speed until all systems are functioning properly before operation. During drilling, adjust the drilling speed and pressure according to the rock hardness to avoid overloading.

- Drilling Tools: Select appropriate drill bits and drill pipes and securely install them. Regularly inspect drill tools for wear and replace them promptly to prevent breakage and injury. 

- Safety Protection: Operators must wear safety helmets, protective glasses, earplugs, and other protective gear. When the drilling rig is operating, personnel are prohibited from approaching rotating parts or standing under the drill pipe.

- Environmental Adaptation: In the event of severe weather such as heavy rain, strong winds (usually exceeding 10.8 m/s), or lightning, operations should be stopped, the drilling rig should be moved to a safe location, and protective gear should be taken.

III. Equipment Maintenance and Site Management

- Regular Maintenance: Between operations or after completion, clean the equipment, check bolts and lubricant levels, and promptly address any faults to avoid "operating with defects."

- Site Cleanliness: Keep the work area tidy, remove drilling cuttings and waste promptly, and store fuel and spare parts separately to prevent environmental contamination.

- Emergency Response: Equip with emergency supplies such as fire extinguishers and first aid kits. In the event of equipment failure or a safety incident, immediately shut down the equipment, activate the emergency plan, and report it.

Following these precautions can effectively reduce safety risks, improve construction efficiency, and ensure the safety of equipment and personnel.
